Biography

Born on May 19, 1942 in Sverdlovsk. Education: higher pedagogical. Merited Coach of the USSR; Honoured Worker of Physical Culture of the Russian Federation; pioneer of sambo in Sverdlovsk.

Jointly with Aleksandr Fedorov, he is the icon of Uralmash sambo and the Urals sambo as well, the founder of the famous Uralmash Sambo School. As a man who raised the first world champion, he began his coaching career very early, when he had just turned twenty. Despite his age, he had a tremendous sway with his trainees. The early triumphs of the young and ambitious coach dated back to the mid-1960s.

As a coach Aleksandr Kozlov trained more than 250 masters of sports of the USSR and Russia in sambo and judo, winners and medalists of World Championships and European Championships, winners of World Cups. And for each of them San Sanych - and that is how he is known in the sambo world - was always much more than just a coach.
