Biography

Aleksander Melnikov was born on May 9, 1957 in the village of Shishadeevo, Gorkiy region. First time he came to the sambo section in Kurgan in 1972. He won the championships of the city and the region, was among the winners and medalists of the All-Russian and All-Union competitions among youth and adults. After finishing school in 1975 he received the title of a Candidate Master of Sports of the USSR. During his service in the army he became the champion of the USSR Airborne Forces in sambo.

After graduating from the Kurgan State Pedagogical Institute in 1982 he began working as a coach-teacher at the Kurgan sports school No.2, in 1985 he moved to the city School of Sports and Athletics.

Together with his colleague Valery Stennikov and two dozen of his trainees he moved in 2000 from Kurgan to Verkhnyaya Pyshma, to the UMMC CS. Here they grew into one of the best and most successful coaching tandems of modern sambo. He was among the top specialists, who managed to create a multilevel system of training in the region, starting from children sambo sections and finishing with the sport of highest achievements. He was also responsible for one of the key areas - the search for talented youth throughout the Sverdlovsk Region and neighboring regions.

On November 19, 2021 Alexander Nikolayevich died.
