Biography

He and his twin brother, Uali Kurzhev, who is 3 minutes older than Ali, joined the judo & sambo club in Cherkessk at the age of six. V.I. Pchelkin became their first coach.

When brothers turned 14, their family moved to Ryazan, where they started doing sports in the sports club “Native land is sport” headed by K.N. Fofanov, the senior coach of the Ryazan region sambo team. Gradually, the young sports club rose to the position of the largest sambo club in the region. In the 2010s, both brothers deserved reputation as one of the most formidable and unassailable tandems, alternately pumping out victories in the 74kg weight class in the most prestigious All-Russian and international tournaments.

Since 2021, along with his brother Uali, he has been representing UMMC Sambo Club (Verkhnyaya Pyshma), and won a bronze medal at the Russian Sambo Championship this February.

Ali graduated from the Academy of Law and Management of the Federal Penal Service of Russia. He plays football in his free time.
