Twentieth International competitions “Pobeda” among youth teams (athletes aged 14-16) of hero cities, cities of military glory and federal districts of Russia were held in St. Petersburg at the Sports Palace “Yubileynyy” on May 2-3, 2022.

Despite the fact that the Ural Federal District team did not make it to the podium, losing to the eventual silver medalists from the Central Federal District with a score of 3-6, they still delivered a very decent and high quality performance.

The Urals team also included three sambo wrestlers from the Sverdlovsk region: Timofey Bobrikovich (up to 58 kg, Bogdanovich Sports School), Dzhabrail Chasygov (up to 74 kg, Sports School “Rodina”, Ekaterinburg) and Ruyad Popov (up to 79 kg, Sports School “Viktoriya”, Ekaterinburg). They earned this honor as winners of the Ural Federal District Championship held in March this year.

More than 250 athletes from 28 teams competed in the “Pobeda” tournament (each team event consisted of nine individual fights). The team from the hero city of Moscow won the Super Cup beating the Volga Federal District team in the finals.

The competitions were organized by the All-Russian Sambo Federation, together with the Ministry of Sports of Russia and non-profit partnership “Society of Sports Single Combats “Fatherland”.

On the eve of the competitions, the participants visited the Piskarevskiy Memorial dedicated to the victims of the siege of Leningrad and all the heroes who sacrificed their lives defending the freedom and independence of our country during the Great Patriotic War and saving the whole world from the fascist threat.
