Russian National Sambo Cup in Kstovo

The Russian National Sambo Cup, which was held from November 22 to 24, came to an end. The final annual major event of 2022 was traditionally held in the city of Kstovo, Nizhny Novgorod region. Sports and combat sambo wrestlers met on the mats of the International Sambo Academy
Kstovo. World Sambo Academy. The legendary founder of the World Sambo Academy - Mikhail Gennadyevich Burdikov.
They say that Kharlampiev called Mikhail Burdikov his heir. He created an entire sambo technique, his own style of wrestling, the famous ground wrestling school.
In 1964, first-ranked Mikhail Burdikov happened to visit Kstovo, he came on a business trip.
In one of the documentaries made in the last years of his life, Mikhail Gennadyevich recalls: "When I moved to Kstovo, I worked as an assemblyman. I had plenty of strength to spare, so I arranged a sports group on a voluntary basis. For three months we had been training, the business trip was over. I had to leave for Dzerzhinsk, my wife and little kid were waiting for me. I lined up the guys, 45 people, started my goodbye speech. And almost everyone had tears in their eyes... So I stayed here. I went to work for the sports committee, the salary was three times less than that of an assembly man, but I didn't regret it and I don't regret anything».
1993 was a remarkable year for the school: the World Championship in Kstovo: three World Champions from Kstovo - S. Lopovok, A. Dunayev, N. Igrushkin - are globally renowned athletes.
In 2003 on the basis of Kstovo school the State Budget Educational Institution "Specialized Children and Youth Sports School of Olympic Reserve in Sambo" was created. The school was run by Ivan Boichuk, a young sambo wrestler and Master of Sport in Sambo.
7 gold, 2 silver and 9 bronze medals - that's the harvest of the Sverdlovsk region team at the Cup.
