World Championship have ended in Bishkek. This year the Russian national sambo team have beat a «new era» record by number of victories and medals awarded at the World Championships

The sambo wrestling team of Sverdlovsk Region once again came out on top: 3 gold medals and 2 bronze medals!

Sambo world championship 2022, which ended in Bishkek on november 13, gathered participants from 52 countries of the world.

21 sets of medals were contested: 7 each among male, female and combat sambo. According to FIAS decision, Russian sambo wrestlers competed at the World Championships in neutral status in FIAS-1 team.

This year the Russian sambo team set a «new era» record (in 2021 International Sambo Federation (FIAS) decided to reduce the number of weight categories in each discipline from nine to seven) in terms of victories and medals collected at world championships. Our team gained 19 medals at the tournament in Bishkek: thirteen gold, two silver and four bronze medals. The second place went to the Kyrgyz team (2-1-3), the third place was taken by the Belorussian team (1-3-4), which, just like our team, also competed under the FIAS flag, in FIAS 2 team.

The prize fund awards 4000 USD to the champion, 3000 USD to the silver medallist and 2000 USD to the bronze winner.

Here are the achievements of our titled wrestlers.

Mansur Khabibulaev became a five-time world champion in combat sambo (weight category U64 kg), Sergey Ryabov became a four-time world champion in sport sambo (U88 kg weight category). The sambo team of Sverdlovsk Region was once again at the top: 3 gold medals, as many gold medals as the Kyrgyz and Belorussian teams won together, for example.

Stanislav Skryabin (U79kg weight category) is a Merited Master of Sport in Sambo, representative of the UMMC Sambo Club. At the World Championship he won the first bout with a clear throw against his opponent from Cameroon. The second fight was more difficult, the athlete from Mongolia put up a strong resistance and Stanislav won with a minimum advantage. Skryabin won the final by a painful hold. In the final, our athlete fight with a sambist from Turkmenistan and won the gold medal with minimum advantage of one point, and became the TWO-TIME WORLD CHAMPION!

Daria Rechkalova (U80 kg weight category) won the first fight by painful hold, in the second bout she submitted an athlete of Mongolia, in the third one she beat a representative of Romania. In the final Rechkalova won over the Belarusian sambist, four-time world champion. Daria applied "grapewine throw" and became World Champion at the age of 19!

Rechkalova practices sambo in the Sambo and Judo School of Olympic Reserve and of the “Rodina” Sports Club and is a master of sports in sambo.

Olesya Posylkina (U72 kg weight category), confidently beat the Dutch wrestler scoring 0:9; a 6:0 win against the athlete from Georgia transferred her to the semi-final, in the semi-final she grabbed a 1:0 win in the bout against the Belarusian and entered the final. In the equal fight for gold she defeated the Romanian sambist with the minimum advantage and became the world champion. Olesya is trained in the Sambo and Judo School of Olympic Reserve and of “Rodina” Sports Club and is a master of sports in sambo.

Ekaterina Khasanova (U50 kg weight category) practices sambo in the Sambo and Judo School of Olympic Reserve and of “Rodina” Sports Club, master of sports in sambo. At the World Championships Ekaterina confidently won the first bout with a score of 0:7, in the second bout she lost 0:1 to Maria Amiulina Gedes from the refugee team. In the repechage bout for bronze, Katya became a winner with a score of 1:3.

Anton Brachev (+98 kg weight category) snatched a 2:2 victory in the first tough bout with an opponent from Uzbekistan, Anton lost the second fight to enter a repechage round. In the repechage bout for bronze Brachev defeated the Romanian athlete and won bronze medal of the Championship. Anton is a representative of the UMMC Sambo Club.
